The Hong Kong Tennis Patrons’ Association, in conjunction with the Watsons Water Champions Challenge and the Hong Kong Tennis Association, are delighted to announce the Best Tennis Doubles Team Award competition. This unique award aims to crown Hong Kong’s best tennis couples in six different categories, including “Father and Son”, “Mother and Daughter”, “Over 18 Ladies’ Doubles”, “Under 18 Ladies’ Doubles”, “Over 18 Men’s Doubles” and “Under 18 Men’s Doubles”.

Having won 10 Grand Slam Doubles Titles since 1998, the Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, are legendary in the world of women’s tennis. Venus will take part in the upcoming Watsons Water Champions Challenge in January 2004.

Venus said, “I have always enjoyed Doubles competitions, particularly because my sister and I are given the opportunity to play as a team, rather than having to face each other across the net. And thus far, we have been successful and have won quite a few Grand Slam tournaments. I think it’s great to see the Doubles game being promoted in Hong Kong in conjunction with the Watsons Water Champions Challenge.” Venus will partner Max Mirnyi, the No.1 Doubles player in the world, in the Mixed Doubles competition at the Watsons Water Champions Challenge at Victoria Park from Jan 8-10, 2004.

Winners of the Best Tennis Doubles Team Award will be selected based on their overall performance in local competitions, as well as voluntary work at any tennis events. Attractive prizes include photos with the star players, autographed Prince racket, tickets for the Event and Watsons Water porcelain dispensers. Nomination forms are available at the Hong Kong Tennis Patrons’ Association and Hong Kong Tennis Association, or can be downloaded from the Tournament website, www.watsonswaterchallenge.com. The closing date for nominations is December 27th, 2003.

Co-tournament Director Terry Catton announced that tickets to the Event are now available at all URBTIX outlets, priced from HK180-HK$580. Student Tickets are also available from HK$80-HK$200. A limited number of Thru-Tickets for the entire tournament are also available, priced at HK$1,300 (inner ring) and HK$1,000 (outer ring). For further information please call Reservations on 2734 9009; Credit Card Bookings on 2111 5999 or visit www.urbtix.gov.hk.
