Facts

  • She withdrew from Canadian Open and Shanghai in August and September 2003 respectively due to continuing shoulder injury. She reached career third US Open semi-final before lost to eventual tournament champion Henin-Hardene for the 3 hour and 3 minute night match in August.

  • In June, she reached at semi-final before lost to eventual champion Rubin at Eastbourne, but reached doubles final with Serena by suprassing No.1 seeds Likhovtseva/Sugiyama. Also reached Wimbledon quarter-final, falling world No.1 and eventual champion Serena Williams.

  • She took one-and-only set off No.1 seed Serena Williams during their final at Miami in March, which fell on her birthday. It was a rematch of the 2002 Miami final when Capriati was world No.1 and top seed (Williams won).

  • In February, she won first matches of year at Dubai to reach semi-final and become the 14th woman to surprass $7 million in career prize money. She became first women’s defending champion at Australian Open’ to lost in the 1st round in Open Era, lost to Weingartner.
